What Students Attending Our Career College Can Expect This Fall

The fall 2020 semester at Oxford College will see students welcomed back on campus. Although the school has been open since July to allow students to complete their practicals in a limited capacity, the fall will see a back to school return (with added policies and safety measures in place). While restrictions related to the pandemic are being relaxed in Ontario and nationwide, vigilance is still necessary for all at our institution in order to avoid infection by the novel coronavirus.

This fall, students in the following programs will have online theory courses and on-campus practicals starting this month:

  • Advanced Esthetics & Spa Operations
  • Dental Hygiene
  • Denturism
  • Intra Oral Dental Assisting Level 1 & 2
  • Massage Therapy
  • Medical Lab Assistant/Technician
  • Personal Support Worker
  • Primary Care Paramedic
  • Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technologist
  • Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Quality Control

Despite this time of uncertainty, we at Oxford College remain committed to protecting everyone at our school, and the measures put in place for the start of the new school year demonstrate how the safety of our students, teachers, and staff are our utmost priority. Here’s what Oxford College students can expect upon their return to class.

Numerous Health Measures Will Be Enforced to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

Upon students’ return to campus, all parties involved must undergo various procedures to keep the school’s environment clean and safe. This includes mandatory screening for everyone at the school, which involves completing an online screening questionnaire (via our website) before an in-person screening before entering school grounds.

Following this, students, staff, and faculty must be screened, given a pre-screening questionnaire, and receive touchless temperature checks on a daily basis (which will be logged by the school), with hand sanitizer also being available throughout the school (including at point of entry). Visits on campus will also be staggered in order to allow for enough time for cleaning and to promote social distancing.

Oxford College’s Campus Will Also Be Sufficiently Cleaned for Everyone’s Safety

Additionally, numerous steps will be undertaken to ensure clinics and offices at our school will be thoroughly disinfected and cleaned (including cleaning high-touch surfaces such as door handles), and installing plexiglass screen guards at our clinics’ reception. School clinics will also see adjusted operating hours, staggered appointment times, and rearranged waiting and treatment areas in order to encourage social distancing. Patients will be given masks before their appointments while clinics will abide by PPE guidelines. This is especially pertinent for students in programs that make heavy use of Oxford’s clinics, such as massage therapy training. Those in dental clinics will also need to stagger appointments, limit capacity at appointments, send pre-screening surveys to patients, and require them to wait outside the campus before entering.

Other Points for Students in Massage Therapy Training and Other Programs to Remember

Based on the Guidelines to Opening Ontario’s Career Colleges, Oxford College will also have other hygiene guidelines in place to help all parties at the school keep each other safe. These include wearing face masks at all times on campus and on public transit, no wandering the halls, no food on campus, and no waiting area open to the public. Students in a medical lab technician course and other practical programs with a lab component should also know that regular hand washing, wearing gloves, and minimizing personal belongings brought on campus are also strongly encouraged during labs, and that all lab equipment must be sanitized prior to use and before leaving. All who enter the campus must sanitize their hands when they arrive. Those exhibiting symptoms will also be immediately sent home and asked to warn their doctor.
