At Oxford College, you can train to become a Dental Hygienist in as quickly as 18 months with our program. You will gain valuable knowledge on how to address the needs of a dental hygiene client and acquire the knowledge and skills to provide preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene services for individuals and communities. Our program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC).

Dental Hygiene is regulated under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, and the Dental Hygiene Act, 1991. This program prepared you to become a primary health care professional that provides client-centered care in a wide range of practice environments. You will learn the theoretical and practical skills needed to achieve professional success as a vital member of a healthcare team.

During the Dental Hygiene program, you will:
- Conduct an initial dental assessment
- Instruct patients regarding oral hygiene procedures
- Prevent and treat gingival/periodontal disease
- Perform scaling and root planing (cleaning teeth)
- Take dental impressions for the fabrication of mouthguards and whitening trays
- Apply sealants
- Remove stains
- Apply fluoride treatment
- Take and process X-rays (digital)
Train in a State-of-the-Art Dental Laboratory and Dental Hygiene Clinic
The fully outfitted dental laboratory will provide you with the chance to learn in facilities that are similar to what you will encounter when you enter the workforce. Training with actual equipment means you will already have bridged any potential knowledge gap when you pursue work at a Dental Clinic. You will gain the knowledge and experience required to operate the various types of dental equipment you may acquire in a traditional setting to provide dental hygiene services to clients. This experience will translate into the level of confidence required to join a progressive dental team upon graduation.
